The Canada flag is an international symbol of Canada and embodies all the reasons we enjoy to be proud Canadians.
Lester B. Pearson, a former Canadian Prime Minister, had a goal. That goal was to abandon the British flag and take on one of our own.
After a long six month battle in the House of Parliament, the Canadian flag was passed on December 15, 1964. This was 97 years after Canada first became a nation.
The red bands on each side of the flag represent our ocean boundaries, and the red maple leaf in the middle could stand for our abundant natural resources between the seas.
The flag is red on white as opposed to blue on white because the old symbol, the British flag, was blue.
The flag was subsequently raised on Parliament Hill on February 15, 1965 in front of the largest crowd to have assembled there since the end of WWII.
It took Canada ninety-eight years to raise ita own flag and clip one more of its apron strings from Britain in an effort to further mold the Canadian identity.
HAPPY CANADA DAY!!!
